Artis Ostups (1988) is the author of poetry collection Comrade Snow (2010), which was nominated for Best Debute at the Annual Award in Literature. In 2010 he received The Prize of the Ventspils International Writers’ and Translators’ House for being the best promising newcomer in literature. Since 2008, he has been publishing book rewievs and articles on literature and aesthetics in Latvian press and online magazines. Ostups graduated in philosophy (BA) from University of Latvia and is still continuing his studies (MA), working through Walter Benjamin’s aesthetics. His translations of Walt Whitman appeared in a Latvian edition of Leaves of Grass (2011). He’s currently living in Sigulda and finishing his second poetry collection, which will be published next year.
