Totem
Afstand is nodig
om naar elkaar toe te groeien;
er is altijd afstand nodig.
Het woord kan onze schelp zijn
zoals het ons lichaam past: korst
die soms nog wond is, soms
de korst weer wond geworden.
De schelp groeit mee met de grillen
van haar dragers: iedereen
heeft een bed nodig – de genezing
ligt in die wond besloten.
Het bed kan onze schelp zijn
waaraan grillig vlees zich hecht;
ruimte is nodig.
Er is altijd een ruimte.

Distance is needed
to grow closer;
there is always a need for distance.
Let the word be our shell,
the way it fits our bodies: a scab,
sometimes still a wound,
which can become a scab again.
The shell grows to accommodate
the caprice of its bearers: everyone
needs a bed – the healing
is found in the wound.
The bed can be the shell,
anchorage for our capricious flesh;
room is needed.
There is always a room.

De la distance est nécessaire
pour grandir l’un vers l’autre ;
de la distance est toujours nécessaire.
Le mot peut se faire notre coquille
de sorte à convenir à notre corps : croûte
parfois encore blessure, parfois
la croûte redevenue blessure.
La coquille grandit au gré des caprices
de ceux qui la portent : tout le monde
a besoin d’un lit – la guérison
niche dans cette blessure.
Le lit peut se faire notre coquille
à laquelle s’attache une chair capricieuse ;
de l’espace est nécessaire.
Il y a toujours un espace.
