Ana Svetel (b. 1990, Maribor) graduated from the Maribor Music Conservatory and completed a Master’s degree in Cultural and Social Anthropology. Currently a research fellow at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Arts, she is working on her PhD on the sociocultural aspects of light, dark and the weather in Iceland. Her collection of poetry Lepo in prav (Well and Good, LUD Literatura, 2015, reprinted 2017) was nominated for best literary debut. Her book of short stories Dobra družba (Good Company, LUD Literatura, 2019, reprinted 2020), was nominated for the Novo Mesto Award. Based on a selection of stories from this collection, Slovenia’s national broadcaster produced a series of short radio plays titled Prevozi (Transportations). Her second poetry collection Marmor (Marble, Beletrina, 2022), was presented at the international Lirikonfest poetry festival. Her poems and short stories have been published in all the main literary journals in Slovenia (Literatura, Dialogi, Sodobnost), her essays appear in various other magazines (Outsider, Razpotja, Airbeletrina), and she also has a regular column in the Saturday supplement of the newspaper Večer. Her work has been translated into numerous languages, has appeared in various anthologies, and is included in the international poetry platform Versopolis. She is also involved in music and storytelling.

Après avoir terminé ses études secondaires au Second lycée et au Conservatoire de musique de Maribor, Ana Svetel (Maribor, 1990) a étudié l'anthropologie culturelle et sociale à la Faculté des lettres de Ljubljana où elle rédige actuellement une thèse de doctorat sur les aspects socio-culturels de la lumière, de l'obscurité, et du temps en Islande. Son recueil de poèmes Lepo in prav (Bel et bon, LUD Literatura, 2015) a été nommé pour le prix de la meilleure première œuvre littéraire et a même dû être réimprimé. En 2019, Ana Svetel a publié chez le même éditeur un recueil de nouvelles, Dobra družba (La bonne compagnie), qui a été nommé pour le prix « Nagrada novo mesto » et a également été rapidement épuisé et réimprimé. Un choix de nouvelles tirées de ce recueil a servi de base à une série radiophonique, Prevozi (Les Transports), enregistrée par la radio publique RTVSLO. En 2022 est paru son second recueil de poésie, Marmor (Le Marbre, Beletrina, 2022) qui a été présenté au festival international Lirikonfest. Ana Svetel publie des poèmes et nouvelles dans toutes les principales revues littéraires slovènes (Literatura, Dialogi, Sodobnost) ainsi que des essais dans différentes revues (Outsider, Razpotja, Airbeletrina). Par ailleurs, elle tient une chronique régulière dans le supplément hebdomadaire du quotidien Večer. Ses œuvres sont traduites sans plusieurs langues et bien représentées dans les anthologies. Ana Svetel participe à la plateforme poétique internationale Versopolis. Elle est également très active dans les domaines de la musique et de la narration d'histoires.

Ana Svetel werd in 1990 in Maribor geboren, waar ze na het gymnasium een conservatoriumopleiding volgde. In 2012 voltooide ze haar studie culturele en sociale antropologie. Ze is als onderzoeker verbonden aan de faculteit geesteswetenschappen van de Universiteit van Ljubljana en werkt aan haar proefschrift genaamd Weather, time, light and darkness in social dimensions of Icelandic landscape. Haar dichtbundel Lepo in pravMooi en waar (in 2015 uitgegeven door LUD Literatura) werd genomineerd als beste debuut; deze raakte snel uitverkocht en werd herdrukt. In 2019 verscheen bij dezelfde uitgeverij haar bundel korte verhalen Dobra družba – Goed gezelschap die werd genomineerd voor de Nagrada Novo mesto – de prijs van de stad Novo Mesto; ook deze was spoedig uitverkocht en werd snel herdrukt. Een aantal verhalen uit deze bundel werd voor de Sloveense radio en televisie tot hoorspelen bewerkt. In 2022 verscheen bij uitgeverij Beletrina haar tweede dichtbundel Marmor – Marmer, waarmee ze deelnam aan het internationale festival Lirikonfest. Haar gedichten en korte verhalen verschijnen in toonaangevende Sloveense literaire tijdschriften als Literatura, Dialogi en Sodobnost, en haar essays in diverse media als Outsider, Raspotja en Airbeletrina. Ana Svetel schrijft columns voor de zaterdagbijlage van het dagblad Večer. Haar gedichten en verhalen zijn in diverse talen vertaald en in enkele anthologieën opgenomen. Ze is aangesloten bij het internationale dichtersplatform Versopolis. Ana Svetel is ook is actief als musicus,  ze houdt regelmatig voordrachten en is lid van de Sloveens Schrijversgenootschap.
